Itinerary

The day-to-day itinerary gives a detailed overview of the activities planned for each stage of the trek. The itinerary has been carefully tested and tried. Although it rarely happens, unforeseen circumstances can force us to make (minor) adaptations to the schedule, even during the trip. For example, weather and road conditions may change rapidly while traveling and make certain parts of the route less passable. Flexibility is indispensable when driving through the rugged lands of Tajikistan.

Day 1 – Dushanbe → Iskanderkul
In the morning, we pick you up from your accommodation in Dushanbe and begin our journey north along a scenic mountain road into the Fann Mountains. Our destination is one of the region’s most iconic sights: Iskanderkul Lake. The drive takes approximately three hours and offers beautiful views of rugged peaks and deep valleys along the way.

Before descending to the lakeshore, we stop for a short hike to a panoramic viewpoint on the eastern shore, where you can enjoy breathtaking views over the entire turquoise lake. We then continue down to Iskanderkul itself. At the lake, we take an easy walk to nearby waterfalls and visit the small Kulimoron Lake, also known as Snake Lake.

In the afternoon, we drive along the northern shore of Iskanderkul toward the village of Sarytag.

We spend the night in a homestay in Sarytag, offering a first glimpse into the village life in the Fann Mountains.

Day 2 – Iskanderkul → Alauddin Lake
In the morning, we explore the village of Sarytag and its surroundings. The village is set in a quiet mountain area with green valleys and traditional houses. Short walks around the village offer views of the surrounding valleys and peaks. On clear days, it is possible to see Chimtarga Peak, the highest mountain in the Fann Mountains.

After lunch, we continue our journey towards Alauddin Lake, one of the highlights of the region. The drive takes about 2.5 hours and follows an unpaved mountain road, which can be rough and bumpy but offers impressive scenery along the way.

At the end of the road, we leave the vehicle and hike for about 2 km to reach the lake. The bright blue waters of Alauddin Lake are surrounded by impressive mountain slopes and rocky peaks. The afternoon is free to relax, take photos or walk around the lake. We spend the night camping on the shore of Alauddin Lake.

Day 3 – Alauddin Lake → Artuch
In the morning, we leave Alauddin Lake and drive towards the village of Artuch. The journey takes about 4 hours and follows mountain roads with changing landscapes, from high alpine scenery to the valley of the Zerafshan River.

After arriving in Artuch, we set out on a hike to Chukurak Lake. The hike to this small yet picturesque lake is not long and can be done at a relaxed pace. At the lake, there is time to enjoy the quiet surroundings and take photos. On warm days, those who wish may even try a refreshing swim in the clear mountain water.

In the afternoon, we return to Artuch to spend the night in a hostel.

Day 4 – Kulikalon
Today, we have a full-day hike to the Kulikalon Lakes. The hike starts at an elevation of about 2.100 meters above sea level. The trail climbs steadily, with a total vertical ascent of around 700 meters.

After the main climb, the landscape opens up onto a wide high-altitude plateau. Here, a group of beautiful mountain lakes is spread across the open terrain, each with its own color and character. During the hike, we make a loop across the plateau, visiting the main Kulikalon Lake as well as the lakes Kulisiyokh, Bibijonat, and Dushokha.

Throughout the day, we enjoy wide views of the surrounding peaks and plenty of time for breaks and photos. In the afternoon, we hike back down the same way to the village of Artuch, where we spend another night.

Day 5 – Artuch → Haft Kul
In the morning, we drive from Artuch to Haft Kul, also known as the Seven Lakes. The drive takes about 2 hours and follows a scenic road into a narrow mountain valley.

Haft Kul is a long valley with seven elongated lakes, each formed by natural dams. As we travel up the valley, we pass all seven lakes, seeing how their colors and surroundings change with altitude. The road continues all the way to the highest lake, called Hazorchashma.

At the seventh lake, we take time to walk around the lake and enjoy the quiet mountain setting. After the hike, we drive back down the valley to the village of Padrud, located near the fourth lake. We spend the night in a local homestay in Padrud.

Day 6 – Haft Kul → Dushanbe
In the morning, we leave Padrud and drive back through the Haft Kul valley, passing the lakes once more on the way down. We then join the main road in the Zerafshan Valley and continue our journey back to Dushanbe.

The total driving time is about 6 hours. We arrive in Dushanbe in the late afternoon, where you are dropped off at your accommodation, marking the end of the tour.
